Everyone is a leader!
A leader can be any one of the following—leading & influencing a group of people through social media, team leader managing employees for the successful execution of a project, or a small circle of friends to solve a real-life problem headed by one etc.
‘True leaders understand that leadership is not about them but about those they serve. It is not about exalting themselves but about lifting others up.’ – Sherry Dew
True Qualities of a Leader
Purpose: The purpose of a leader is well-defined, and they work towards achieving it. They create short- and long-term goals that are attainable. Being aware of their values and ethics, they don’t give up in hard times or when situations are beyond their control. The circle of influence is well-aware of the leader’s principle and purpose. In a way, they abide by it to lay the foundation.
Value Relationship: A true leader values every relationship irrespective of caste, creed, religion, sex, colour etc. I came across this statement in one article, and it resonates well – ‘Don’t become a title-driven leader, be a relationship-driven leader.’ It is so true. A true leader adds value to other people’s life by their deeds. They are selfless and caring.
Good Listener: A true leader is a good listener. He listens carefully to all members before coming to a conclusion. The bond and trust are also increased in this way. It is well said by Napoleon Hill – ‘People may follow the forced leadership temporarily, but they will not do so willingly.’
No Procrastination: A true leader manages their time well. Procrastination is not a word in their dictionary in layman’s terms. It is not that a leader can’t have leisure time or participate in fun activities, it is just that they utilise time properly (judiciously is the best word). They love to connect with people and share ideas so that they can constantly add value to the ‘people around them’ and ‘people associated with them’.
There are many true qualities of a leader, but the most important of all is ‘They prefer to lead by example’. They focus on setting their goals and take necessary actions along with the team members to achieve it.
