Twenty 20 World Cup has been put off. I believe that it should be called off and nullified. To me, Twenty 20 cricket is a similar game to cricket, not cricket at all. It is not the way cricket should be played. It ruins the beauty of a beautiful game.
The real traditional game of cricket is test match cricket not the perfunctory slogging Twenty 20 short form which is the cynosure of all eyes. But those who know about the game and the way it has to be played will always love Test match cricket. However, cricket should be globalized, at least, that’s what cricket pundits thought.
To globalize a sport like a cricket is not an easy task, particularly, because the game takes up a long period of time with no guarantee of a result, hence the short form was created. Twenty 20 cricket is still in its nascent stage but its popularity is huge and would increase even more if it is included in the Olympics games in the future.
Many more countries will take up the game and big money will continue to flow into the sport. But I have concerns that one day the beauty of Test cricket and ODI cricket may vanish in the euphoria of Twenty 20 cricket. Yuvraj Singh, from India, hit a 50 in 12 balls, slogging six sixes in an over in the inaugural Twenty 20 World Cup in 2007. One day someone may hit 12 sixes in two overs. And wouldn’t it be great if they were from the USA or Germany?. But if the game manages to achieve such heights then who would bother to play or indeed watch cricket’s traditional game [Test cricket] in the future?
Test cricket is like the sole breadwinner of a family. Therefore, we all should get together to preserve Test cricket for the posterity rather than running after money.
