For a long time now, many football fans’ craving is for Messi to win a trophy with Argentina national team. In the age groups, he won the world cup at under 20 and the Olympic gold with the under 23. However, a major one thing that has eluded him so far is the major title with the La Albicelesete (The White and Sky-Blue). One thing about Lionel Messi is that he makes football look so simple and enjoyable to watch for the fans.

Critics put it that Messi divides opinion when it comes to international football. In the Barcelona shirt, he is just unstoppable and particularly this season he has been in scintillating form for his club. Perhaps it is time he showed the same form for Argentina. Argentina boast of one of the best squads in every position, and it is so appalling that this generation of hugely talented players have not delivered any trophy for Argentina.

Yes, at Barcelona, he plays with outstanding players, but the brilliance of those players at Barcelona is put to question whether they are good or it is down to the brilliance of the little genius. Perhaps Messi lacks a bit of patriotism for Argentina. Being a leader that he is, he needs to show more for the team, and that will rub off to the other players, and that will deliver the goods for Argentina. Therefore, Messi should show more love and passion for his beloved Argentina. All stats support him as the GOAT (Greatest All Of Time), but he needs to deliver for Argentina to erase all doubts about his status as a GOAT. Team performance like the one against Venezuela in the recent international friendly does not help his cause with the national team, and his eventual withdrawal from the squad even though down to injury will have many critics questioning his commitment towards the Argentine national team. He needs to be more patriotic.
