It is often said that laughter is good medicine. Moments of laughter sends an instant relief to the mind. The signal it sends to the brain is of great value because it makes for a merry heart. A merry heart is a heart at rest. Across many countries, there are persons gifted with the grace to make others laugh. They could either be stand-up comedians or just comedians as the occasion demands.
The former class is a group of persons who do perform in front of an audience. Paid public shows, birthdays, friends night, school parties, are some of the platforms for which these talents have been manifesting their gifts. And we can thank technology because with it you can also access funny videos on your smartphone without necessarily attending a live comedy show.
The television is also a medium. Comedy as a form of entertainment enjoys huge following across the board. But how effective is this medicine?
The Therapy
We live in a world filled with reasons to be stressed up. Consider: if it isn’t the anxiety from a suspected delay in salary payment, it is the children always messing up the house, or the personal driver forgetting to deliver the consignment at the right destination, or the dress you paid for is not delivered to taste, or the stock market suddenly crashes, or your flight is delayed which affects your appointment, or your football team loses the most important point, or a relationship fails, etc.
Every human is susceptible to stress at some level. Social status isn’t an exemption. Therefore, to avoid mental collapse, or to avoid raising the body’s blood pressure, we have comedy to run to. Each smile from laughter has positive effects. This is contrary to what a frown does to the face. Studies have shown that a frown causes numerous muscles to contract and overworks them, but that a smile relaxes the muscles and keeps them in good condition and delays aging.
Certainly, you don’t wish to look old so soon (which is the reason you purchase body care and cosmetics products). A time of laughter should be sort after every day as a therapy to ease the power of stress. This is not to imply that you wish to be ignorant of the difficulty at hand. Instead, it is to remind us that the power to control the events of life is beyond our reach.
Being too worried over problems won’t solve them. You only need to have a sound mind to be able to consider the path to follow in solving them. Give your mind the freedom from worry and anxiety. Make your heart merry with laughter. As the opportunity presents itself, “Laugh Out Loud” (lol).
