The infinity of eternity

Eternity is a phenomenon that words can scarcely describe without attaching some spiritual or metaphysical context to it. Eternity is time without end, it is a forever thing, it is an unfathomable space, and it is measureless. Eternity is not a much talked about topic, especially outside the religious circle probably because it does not exist in the physical sphere and that also, the mind of man cannot accommodate such a phenomenon. Is it possible for the mind to wander through a spectrum of time that is timeless, a continuously continuous vacuum?

Merriam Webster’s dictionary defines eternity as time without end: a state that comes after death and never ends. The English dictionary says it is existence outside of time. James Montgomery said eternity is a moment standing still forever. Man’s existence on the planet has its limit, animals, and plantations also. In fact, some animals have gone into extinction today while some are endangered. An undeniable truth of this side of life is that there is a time to be born and a time to die, a time to start and a time to stop, a time to be active and a time to become inactive. There is a start and expiration to everything we are and do on the planet. We are here for the time being. We live here for different ages from one to a hundred or a few more years added to a hundred before our time is over. Just a hundred years or a little more? Rick Warren, the author of the book Purpose Driven Life, said at most, you will live a hundred years on earth, but you will spend forever in eternity. Even if we live two hundred or five hundred years here on earth, it is nothing, absolutely nothing compared to a timeless life in eternity.

I have come to understand that this life is too short. Too short to live in bitterness, hate, jealousy, division, and malice. Too short to not explore the beauty of the earth, too short to live in folly but very long to make the right decisions. Today, you and I have the opportunity to make the best decisions of our lives so that we can live Godly and fulfilled lives while here. We cannot afford to sacrifice eternity for a short time of fun, and wasteful living. We should live purposefully while here but with eternity in mind.

Finally, the end of all things is near. Therefore, be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray. Above all, love each other deeply. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms and returning all glory to God. We cannot afford to lose the glory of our beautiful great beyond. Keep eternity in view!
