Everyone desires to succeed and to do something meaningful with their lives, but It’s so easy to overlook and underrate those gifts and potentials in us that are capable of making us attain greatness in life. There are certain things we do with so much ease and natural expertise that we often forget how unique they are to us. We often see them as a normal thing, but sincerely, they are not normal, neither are they common.
A lot of people are going about life in circles, trying to discover themselves, in order to find out who they truly are and what they can do. It could be frustrating when we look within ourselves as we’ve been told to do, but fail to find anything special about us. I asked myself, “why is it so difficult to truly discover oneself?”
Motivational speakers and writers would ask us to look back to our childhood days, whether there was anything we loved to do. “That may be a clue or a pointer to where your passion lies”, they would say. Many of us tried this formula, but it never seems to work for us.
Few years ago, I went on a journey of self-discovery. At a point, I wanted to give up. “Maybe there was nothing special about me”, I thought to myself. I assumed that the creator must have specially blessed some set of people with gifts and potentials that they could use to bless their world while forgetting the rest of us. I was almost discouraged.
But fast forward to many years later, I realize that no single man on earth was born empty. We were all loaded with gifts and potentials right from birth, and we were strategically placed in environments that will help us develop and showcase our natural talent to the world.
After I gained this insight, I asked myself, “why did I take so long to figure out who I am?” “Why did I struggle to accept and believe in who I found myself to be?” “Why do I keep asking questions for so long as to whether I’m on the right path or not?”
The truth is that the signal has been there all along, but I never knew it was something to be taken seriously. I didn’t believe it was what I’ve been searching for. Maybe this is why we often have a tough time finding our path in life. What makes us unique is often what we fail to pay attention to. Most often, it may be what we never thought could make us shine.
At the end of it all, we’ll discover that it pays to take note of the subtle and the not-so-important things about ourselves. Every little detail matter, and every event of our life counts.
The talents we never paid attention to may be the pointer to our destiny.
