Outstanding leaders are not aliens. They are ordinary people with extraordinary characters and consistent actions. Also, great leaders have a clear understanding of their strength and weakness. After several years of paying close attention to successful leaders, here comes my conclusion on the “secret of leaders”: Leaders appreciate honest feedback, they are team players, they have a clear vision, show empathy and they are disciplined.
Appreciate honest feedback: there is no way to great leadership than to accept input from people. Great leaders do not shun feedback from little children, partners, employees, customers or observers. They understand that feedback is not a criticism but a way of getting better and knowing what people think of you. To be a great leader- accepting and appreciating feedback is one of the sure secrets.
Team player: The success of a great leader lies in their ability to get along with people of diverse opinions. Leadership is all about responsibility and creating success with your teammates. A great leader understands he must be responsible for his teams’ success regardless of individual differences.
Clear vision: Vision is a map or path to an organisations’ destination. Every great leader possesses this virtue. They have a clear stepwise vision of where they are heading.
Empathy: Empathy is the strength of a great leader. This attribute helps leaders understand or feel the pains of the people they are leading. Leaders who show empathy have more committed followers.
Discipline: Discipline is being at your best daily, and the best way to be a great leader is to be disciplined. Everything about leadership has its foundation on discipline, and every successful leader exhibits this trait.
