One moment at a time

Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven. The pastor droned on while I zoned in and out on him. My thoughts were all over the place, I could barely pick out anything I’ve been able to grasp all morning from the Sunday service, and I couldn’t even find the decency within me to feel guilty. I just wanted this service to be over and done with so that I can move on to the mental to-do list have been jotting all morning.

Dr. Okonji’s assignment, PHA 504 term paper, group discussion for PHC 510 presentation, a sink full of dirty dishes back in my small apartment in the student’s residential area, to mention a few, so can anyone see that my haste and impatience is entirely justified?

Let us rise to pray and commit all we have heard. I’d never been gladder to hear that statement in my life as I enthusiastically jumped on my feet hoping it will be a quick prayer session. My wish was granted, and I felt the heavens were smiling down on me. As the congregation was dismissed, I was practically the first person to make it to the door.

I was barely a block from the church when my phone rang, and I picked to hear my friend screaming, Clarisse! Have you heard the news? I was so irritated that I retorted, how could I? Except I’m following opera news. Well, whatever! She retorted back and continued.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities just declared an indefinite strike with immediate effect. I almost went numb at the news! The fact that an indefinite strike is declared in my final year was not the biggest of my worries right now, but the fact that I’d succeeded in ruining many beautiful relationships back there in the church all for something as unreliable as tomorrow.

It’s today that matters, after all, tomorrow is merely a mirage. Live life one day at a time, one moment at a time. Way to go Clarisse! I cheered myself sarcastically. Meanwhile, my friend was droning on, on the other end of the call, while I made my way back to church humbly to make amends.
