When will I be happy? When will I hold your hands again? For how long will I keep on waiting for you to say “yes” to me? That was my last conversation with her last week.
Today 12 of April is her birthday. As usual, I dressed up to school to catch up with the morning lecture, on getting to the school I met my friend Tani Peter who was sitting beside her in-law. After taken my sit, I took a deep breath and smile, and she said to me prof what’s up why are you smiling this morning, any good news? Tell me what it is. I smiled and said it’s my economic girl’s birthday. When? Today of course.
As I was sitting down pondering on what to buy for her on this special day, an idea dropped in my mind that I should give her a surprise gift. That’s a nice idea so what should I buy? I asked myself, and I resolved to buy her a motivational book.
What can I attach with this book I bought? Write a letter to her, seal it together with the book, I thought. That was a great idea. Unknown to me my classmates were imagining what was I thinking about? And one of them said maybe he’s thinking of his economic girl; they boasted into laughter.
Reaching out into my economic bag as I pulled out my golden pen to write a birthday letter to her. I tore a piece of paper, a ruler, now am ready to pour out my heart and prayers on this great day of hers.
“Dear Sweetheart,
It is necessary for me to pen down this piece of letter to you on this day of happiness. I wonder what life would have been without meeting you. You have been a great friend to me my love and may God keep you for me. I want you to know that I love you so much and I will always be there for you. May this day bring blessings to your life and am wishing you good health and longevity, my sweetheart.
Bawai adamiwoh (May God protect you), dare to be different and may your generation be blessed through you. On this special day, remember to ponder upon my request, my dear. Happy birthday, dear.
Hip hip hip hurray!”
Everything was set as I fold the letter with joy in my heart; I dashed out of the class to her resident to celebrate the birthday together. My classmates were still amazed, and they couldn’t fathom what I was doing. Behold, there she was waiting for me, for over an hour, she ran out and hugged me and ushered me into her house.
