They say democracy is the government of the people for the people by the people. But I say democracy is the selection of some people, for the people by the people.
Election is the period of our lives were private figures become public figures. The time the rich get close to the poor. It is the period where the high class and affluent come to eat, befriend and give gifts to the commoner.
It is the time politicians tell us how much they care for us and how much we mean to them. Maybe it is the time they pretend while they plan what they intend to do. Perhaps it is the time; we too expect to feel special and important. During elections I see politicians turn into musicians, some even end up becoming comedians just to win our hearts. Sad enough, election is the only time they chase us, and after elections, we pursue them all the time.
Now Mr. politician listen to me and listen attentively; when we elected you it’s not because you deceived us, but because we believe in you more than you believe in yourself. Do not take our votes like you take off your coats when you are done giving your quotes because our votes are our blood, our lives, our children and our children’s children.
Now that we have chosen you, yes, we chose you, don’t think you outsmarted us and don’t think you can oppress us and suppress us.
Whenever you think of oppression, remember our beloved Gaddafi.
Whenever you think of suppression, remember our beloved Mugabe.
Remember what Abraham Lincoln said, you can fool some of the people some of the time but not all the people all the time.
We the people put you at the top, and we can make you drop. The fact that you are flying in airplanes and private jets is because we are trying to keep you up there.
Do not quit on us, don’t give up on us and don’t take our selection as just mere election. Because without us you are nothing and without you, we lose something.
So be our leader, be our teacher and be our boss but remember like Abraham Lincoln once said; whatever you are, be a good one.
African leaders, the days of old autocracy are gone and behold a new dawn is here called democracy. My leader, freedom, and justice are what we need so that God will bless our motherland and make our nation great and strong. We believe in you, we believe in your promise, and together we achieve all and more that is why we voted for you.
If you forget everything, do not forget this whether you are a politician or citizen, whether you are in power or opposition;
Before election, everyone plays politics, but after election we all must play patriotism.
