Cycling enthusiast and philanthropist member of Elgeyo Marakwet County Assembly, Kenya, has hinted plan to boost education and blue-collar jobs through his ward’s bursary scheme. This comes at the wake of a government bid to ensure that Kenya attains 100 per cent transition in education.
Jonah Kipkorir Tanui popularly known as ‘JK ’ represents Soy Southward in Kerio Valley, Elgeyo Marakwet County. The Former teacher has seen to hide under his political slogan ‘Lapkei Tai’ literally meaning the future is bright, since the time immemorial which has seen him sacrifice for sustainability in his community, the gesture that rewarded his political ambition in 2017 general election.
Speaking in his Chepsirei office, the result-oriented leader lamented a high rate of school drop-outs in his ward attributed to lack of school fees. “Many children in Kenya are born into a cycle of poverty that perpetuates the broken system that they have become victims of; often discontinuing their education midway for lack of fees producing a generation with shattered dreams,” he said.
The Deputy Majority leader in Elgeyo Marakwet assembly called for urgent innovations towards the support of vulnerable children in Soy Southward. “We are destined to support over 200 children to realize their secondary school education, several others into vocational training colleges, and technical training institutes. That’s in our quest to improve the quality of living standards by producing trained and experienced manpower.” JK hinted thanking the ward bursary Committee.
The valiant leader said that they have embarked on an immediate process towards sponsoring two students per sub-location, preferably a male and a female to join the first technical college to operate in Kerio valley, Elgeyo Marakwet County dubbed Chepsirei technical training college based in his ward. The IT entrepreneur and science guru say that scheme will see a total of 22 youth from his ward realize their academic dreams.
“The sub-locational committees assisted by assistant chiefs are conducting barazas to choose legible vulnerable/needy candidates latest Monday 9 September 2019,” Mr. Tanui said acknowledging other 20 youth sponsored early last year to pursue vocational training at Chepkorio and Iten vocational training centers following their fortitude, discipline and for carrying Soy Southward academic flag high.
Mr. Tanui is calling upon the needy students in his ward owed to diverse challenges to be confident in what they are doing. There may be tough times, but the difficulties which you face will make you more determined to achieve your objectives and to win against all the odds. Keep smiling, be positive and never give up!
