Incineration

The world is in distress about plastic that is being dumped in the oceans. Everywhere we look, there is plastic, and we can begin to call our world planet plastic. No amount of time in prison will turn people from using plastic.

Incineration is a process of waste treatment which involves the combustion of organic substances. This process converts waste into ash, fuel gas and heat and the fuel gases are cleansed from gaseous and particulate pollutants before they are dispersed into the atmosphere. The heat generated by the incineration is used as electric power. They reduce the solid mass of original waste by 80-85% and the volume by 95-96%. It doesn’t replace land-filling but reduces the amount of disposal.

In most countries, the trash sits for thousands of years waiting to decompose. Incineration plants can make that trash disappear in just one day. The garbage trucks collect trash and drive it to the plant where the materials are burned at about 1000 degree Celsius. This high temperature eats away waste and generates heat and energy to light up thousands of homes. The burnt trash produces toxic smoke, and the smoke is filtered in a complicated process to make it cleaner before being emitted via a chimney. If every country responsibly handles trash, we would have a much cleaner world.

There is a lot of debate going on at the moment, and countries like Singapore and other well-developed countries are already making a difference in the plastic filled earth. With the advancement of technology, we can strive to make the process 100% effective. Hope our world can utilize available methods to protect our planet rather than delay through unnecessary debates.
