Goal setting

Someone once said, ‘If you don’t know where you are going, every road leads to your destination.’

If we observe the lives of successful leaders, we will often notice that they have a clear vision and gave set specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time targeted goals that guide how they live each day. They know where they are going and have planned a route to arrive at their destination.

Without a goal, man’s will to live will perish. He becomes lifeless and will lose himself in the process of attaining a certain meaning to his/her life. We need to have a goal, a clear vision of what we want to do to ourselves to be happy and joyful.

There are two types of goals, long term and short term.

Under short term comes a daily achievable goal. Starts from waking up early in the morning, it’s a goal. Millions struggle particularly with it. Acknowledge everything you do as a goal. Once acknowledged to hit it hard won’t be much of a strain. Short term goals help you in achieving long term goals. These are nothing but fulfilling the vision you had for your own life.

Goal setting begins with a vision. Have a great vision for yourself and start small. I always say, “Start small but start.” That’s far more important than any other. Trust in your vision. Take little steps to one day you will have no steps to climb because you reached that pinnacle of success.

Write down your vision, write what’s necessary to achieve it. Start with what you have. Maintain a journal. At the end of the day, you will have the track record of how far you’ve come. Do not get disheartened if you delay a bit. We did not build a rocket in a day. See that you do not postpone the respective work at that particular hour. Postponement only hurts you. Focus and prioritize your to-do list. Anything that takes away your focus and tries to shift your priorities burn them down immediately, if we delay in doing that they will burn us ultimately.

Organize your list by priority and focus area. Write down what you must do to achieve or complete the particular task which will take you towards your vision and proceed with it. Nobody did have everything before they became successful. They did what they could with what they had.

Be patient in everything you do, have perseverance and wait for your moment. When you see the potential opportunity calling, grab it tightly. Do not let it slip. Give your best, the best of the best. The best can be given only by the bested ones who bested their own self in giving the best.
