Don’t just think

How often do you sit and think of how to improve a certain thing or issue in life and how much time do you spend thinking about your plans?

Sometimes thinking only without action becomes an illusion. When you spend too much time thinking about something, you get the false sense that you have dealt with it at some level. This then leads to procrastination. Because the cognitive process demands a lot of energy, one may even feel tired after thinking. It is believed the brain uses more energy than any other human organ, taking up to 20 percent of the body’s total store.

A transfer of energy needs to happen – transition from the mental process to a physical one. For instance, thinking about breaking up with your girlfriend or boyfriend for two weeks can be stressful. But simply thinking about it over a day or so and making a decision and actually doing it may give you relief. As in the example above, once you have broken up with your partner the mind does not have to continuously deal with the same issue. This opens possibilities for other necessary cognitive processes.

Whenever you desire anything it is obvious that the mind will go to work in order to get it. However, you may agree with me, that the cognitive process alone will not help. I believe that potential energy in this case is transformed into dynamic kinetic energy when we act on our plans instead of simply dwelling on the ideas.

Hence, do not be afraid to act; do not be afraid to speak. Release the mind from the burden of worry – don’t simply think about.
