Connect your way to success

As a fresh Nigerian graduate, the nightmare after writing the final exams and concluding your project is to find something to keep you busy, at least till the clarion calls (you know what I mean). Staying idle for months before the National Youth Service is something every fresh graduate always try to avoid. We see this time as an opportunity to equip and develop ourselves, and probably make some money if we can.

However, a lot of fresh graduates are faced with specific challenges which might not make this period of their life worthwhile as they had expected it to be.

One of those challenges is related to their environment and the opportunities they can harness there. The common decision made by most fresh graduates is to leave home to stay with a relative or friend in a different part of the country if their home is located in areas where they might not get the opportunities they want.

But what happens if you are among the few who has no relatives or friends in an environment where the opportunities you desire can be found? What happens when the people you know are those who you can’t just approach for such help? What will you do if you do not have enough money to start a small business during this time? What happens if you have no connections with people who can bring you an opportunity you can make use of in your environment?

I thought of all these and I realize how valuable connections are in our success journey. Connection does not necessarily mean knowing the bighorns in different sectors. That friend who brought you the information of a movie audition you’ve been searching for is an example of a good connection.

Gradually, I began to realize how valuable having connections are. No relationship should be trivialized. Every opportunity to meet and connect with others is an opportunity to move forward. Naturally, as humans, we trivialize this.

Day by day, man is becoming more focused on himself and his life alone, forgetting that If he were able to survive by himself, he would have been the only one created on earth. We were made to mingle and build strong connections with one another because we need each other to survive.

If the situation is as such as described above, the wisest thing any fresh graduate who finds him/herself in such situation can do is to grab any opportunity he/she can find in that present environment.

It may not be what you desire, but it will be an opportunity to move out to open yourself to more possibilities. Opportunities won’t come to you on your bed.

When you step out to do that which you do not totally desire, you’ve opened yourself to get a chance to connect with others in order to have what you truly want. And that is a more significant opportunity.
