We look back at people we once had in our lives and wonder where they’ve gone, and those we now have and wonder if they’ll stay.
We all have families, religion, we live in neighbourhoods, engage in business transactions, everything we do bring us to meet different people.
We get attached to people for many reasons:
— perhaps, they loved the part of us we never thought anyone could love. Or they remind us of people we once had in our lives, or maybe because they’re comfortable with the insecurity we are ashamed to admit we have.
A lot of people argue that emotional relationship is the pinnacle of all human relationships. That’s okay, but then we still see so many relationship anarchists in the society.
This is because what brings people together many times have little strength to keep them together. Bonds are stronger than relationships; if I ask you why you love your mom, “she gave birth to me ” won’t be all the answer. It would be more, but when you were an infant, that answer was everything.
As we grow in life, the craving for something more profound than just being curled up in the arms grows to, “she gave birth to me ” would become a bond too weak to bind me with my mother now that I’ve grown into teenage.
That’s why it’s not hard to see teenagers fighting parents they once called everything because everything weak gets defeated. The bond that held them before has been weakened with years and not able to pull them together when the whirlwinds teenage desire for freedom and parents desire to protect is blowing them apart.
So, it is with all relationships, what keeps you together must be stronger than anything that’ll try to tear you apart, when a relationship is threatened, the bond is what rises to the defense of it.
We should spend time strengthening bonds than creating relationships.
Bonds outgrow relationships!
