Bi-examination in UDUS

It was a terrible experience when I was a Jambito, one of the casualties of bi-examination in Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS). “I hadn’t experienced such thing before since my toes stepped on sand,” he added if this was a fallacy or a myth.

In my first semester 100 level, they fixed two of our papers at the same time, in the same venue. When I saw the time table, I asked myself, are we having a carry-over from secondary school? Maybe that’s why two courses were fixed at the same time.

Sincerely, writing two examinations at a time, can it show the capacity of some student? I mean, how are they powerful of storing data on their brains? Knowingly, If Mr A’s brain can hold huge data, Mr B’s brain may not. And that’s clearly individual differences. We human beings have different brains and ways of understanding. What may be the long road for someone to trek for million years, maybe the smooth road for someone to trek within the twinkle of an hour. If “A” can do It successfully, “B” may not be able to do the same.

Let’s take a look at the scientific analysis of what each brain can acquire. Though, what someone is studying, the brain would not talk to you to stop that you have reached the limit of what it can store. But every organ of our bodies needs rest at times. Unlike if we used a non-living thing material, like a car sometimes. We need to let it cool before we could be able to use it again.

According to scientific analysis, the human brain contains roughly 100 million neurons. Each of these neurons seems capable of making around 1,000 connections, representing about 1,000 potential synapses. Multiply, each of these 100 million neurons by the approximately 1,000 links. It can make, and you can get 100 trillion data points or about 100 terabyte Information. The reason behind the 100 terabyte estimate has its flaws.

It assumes, for example, that each synapse stores 1 byte of Information. In reality, each one could conceivably store more or less than that. Consider, for example: A synapse can exist in more states than either on or off. Perhaps, nobody knows the capacity of everyone’s brain, except God.

So, each brain has limitation of what it can store. What’s possible for someone, may not be possible for another. Similarly, if a person can cope by writing two examination the same time, it may not work for others. Like every student has a methodology of teaching that can work for them. If a student is a slow leaner unlike a fast leaner, there are different ways for both of them to acquire knowledge. That’s Individual differences.

I urge the school management to please find solution to this certain issue. And they should make sure that each department conducts their examination without any clash of two courses, or borrowed courses.
